Standing on the magnificent Isandlwana plains, it's hard not to feel humbled and at the same time exhilarated by the sheer beauty of the area. And of-course the remarkable history of this land cannot be escaped. Simply put, I'm in love with Isandlwana Lodge! The Lodge is carved right into the iNyoni rock formation, where the Zulu commander stood during the legendary Battle of Isandlwana.
It all sounds a bit austere and morbid, but the warmth and hospitality of the place and the sheer beauty of the surroundings make this a very special spot indeed. My bedroom was one of twelve stunningly decorated African style vacation rooms and the dining was just excellent. The opportunities to relax in a pool built among the rocks and to go horseback riding through the amazing landscape and remote rural Zulu settlements were also ones I could not pass up. Yes, a truly magical experience!
